When it comes to heros immediately i knew who mine would be. Him and I share the same blood but have not spent more than a few hours together over the last 2 years. My hero is young and strong, a military police for the United States Air Force. My hero is my older brother Donovan.
Donovan was born on June 7th 1987, the first of 3 children in the Pepley crew. He grew and reached a height of 5’10” by high school. As the senior class president, 4 year soccer and track letterman, and 1 year wrestling letterman, he was very looked up to among his peers. Donovan also was active in the school’s yearbook and journalism class as a sports writer and walked across the stage as the first person to ever not miss a day of school from kindergarten until graduation. Now that’s something. Since February 2006, Donovan has spent his days all around the world. Starting in Texas, to Japan, to Korea, back to Japan, Las Vegas, Saudia Arabia and now resides again in Japan.
Donovan is considered a hero for so many reasons. A true hero is someone who protects, gives back and never gives up. He always protected me, his little sister, from all the guys that tried to get in my pants and all the friends who have let me down. Now that I had 16 years of him to myself, it was time to move onto bigger and better things. He may be halfway around the world now, but he is still my big brother and he still facebooks the guy who i recently added to my relationship status and is not afraid to harass them. He is fighting for our country and for each and everyone of us who live in it in the Air Force. He gives back to his country so that it can still be called the land of the free.
His journey to get where he is today has been a long and curvy road, but that never stopped him from his dreams. Donovan was a breech baby and had dislocated hips at birth. He was faced with a waist-down cast for the first few months of his life and recovered. When he was 17, he almost died while cutting wood for the home when the blade from the saw cut his leg a half inch away from his main artery. Donovan has been a fighter and i believe always will be one. He fought through the hard times in our family when my mother left and still stands strong, now benching over 300 pounds, practicing for an upcoming bodybuilding competition in Hawaii.
Nothing has ever stopped Donovan from following his dreams and doing what he wants. He usually always did what he wanted, when he wanted an didn’t care what anyone had to say. He wants everyone to have a good life and be happy and whoever has that kind of personality is definately a hero in my book. And he is not only a hero to his little sister, but his little brother and millions of Americans too. He makes a difference in his life to help serve others and not only himself. To my brother, a true hero.
